Our trip to Slane – Written by Ruaidhrí and Páidí
On April 29, 2026 our 6th class went to the hill of Slane, with the local priest Father Bradley. When we arrived in Slane, the first thing we did was have lunch. After that we lit a fire and prayed with candles in hand in the church where Father Bradley told us the story of St Patrick.
The story of St Patrick starts with St Patrick getting kidnapped by the Irish and being enslaved for several years until he escaped. A couple years later he went back to Ireland but every year the high king of Tara used to light a fire every year but when St Patrick came to Ireland he lit a fire in Slane and so every other king thought that was the high king of Tara and lit their fires as well. When the high king heard about this he was fuming and went to Slane with his army to see who the enemy was. When he arrived and saw it was only one man he was confused until St Patrick said all he wanted to do was spread the word of God, and that is the story of St Patrick.
Then we climbed up some stairs to get to the roof of the church. When we were done, we played games around the church. Finally we went home.
